    Smudger -
before everything was measured in mm's - the co-axle mg's in the Shermans were Browning 303in - the main guns were first the 75mm - then 76mm and finally the British 17 pounder - which were renamed "Firefly's" - some were fitted with the Browning .05 in. AA mg's... not sure but I think the 7.62mm. round came into prominence with the Sten which was to be able to take on the German rounds....
    Cheers

    TTC,

    Tom,

The figures were straight from my memory and then I added the links which show the Imperial measurements.

Never have figured out why the 75mm /76mm canons never had the Imperial size instead:unsure:

Either way they were approximately 3" and that is not a bad sized shell:D

But I wouldn't envy you up against an 88, like you have stated previously, it was a little one sided.

    Regards
    Tom

Thank you very much is a tank for its maneuverability, and skill always liked movements. Does anyone have a photograph of the gun ammunition?
Anyone know if as a clever idea, they used, larger tubes to give that impression to other canyon riding?

I don't but I have seen a photo of the 17 Pdr barrel painted to look smaller.

Donald Sutherlands Sherman in Kelly's Hero's was fitted with a piece of pipe to make it look bigger!:D

Unarmed tanks, like command and artillery observation tanks sometimes had a piece of pipe welded to make them look like the others.

In the Churchill command tanks we had a map table where the guns usually were and short pole the size of the barrel out front plus two or three wireless # 19 sets so there was no room for the gunner only the commander and w/op....it worked !

Oh, I do believe it was a tight fit, I myself 20 years ago was unable to pass through a Comet driver's hatch and my median perimeter was nothing like it is today :)

Owen could give me that photo? I have curiosity. Rodinu Za understand that for the guns of British and American Sherman projectiles were 3rd and 4th from the left, right?. Do the rest of shells also rode in sherman or are for different armor?. The kelly heroe´s, movie of my childhood that made me get into this entertaining world. Guauf! Guauf!. I did not know that the tower mount an 12.7-mm gun, does anyone know how you see the enemy from the 7.62 mm Browning?. Thank you all for your help

What they did is painted the underside of half of it grey so it only looked like a shorter 75mm than a longer 17 Pdr.

hope you got good eyesight. look at lead Firefly's barrel

From Tony Williams' website, 3rd and 4th from the left for the 75mm and 17pdr:

1 - 47x376R (3 pdr Hotchkiss, similar to but slightly longer than 47x351R interwar tank),
    2 - 40x304R (2 pdr AP),
    3 - 57x441 (6 pdr APDS), 4 - 75x350R (US/British 75mm HE),
    5 - 76x583R (17 pdr APDS),
    6 - 76x420R (77mm mm in Comet tank),
    7 - 76x134R (3" Howitzer for close-support tanks),
    8 - 95x206R (95mm Howitzer for close-support tanks).

First it's Za Rodinu, not the other way round!

As the above says, these belonged to:

1 - Medium MkII and a few other pre-war tanks
2 - anything with a 2pdr, say Matilda II, Valentine, Cruiser A20, etc etc
3 - 6 pdr as in Crusader III and lots of others too
    4 - M3 Grant, Sherman 75, Chruchill NA75, Cromwell, etc
    5 - Sherman Firefly
    6 - Comet
    7 - early Churchills
8 - any gun tank but with the 95 howitzer fitted acting as a support tank, say A9 CS, Cromwell CS, etc, etc.

Can't find it, it's on the forum somewhere.

Here's one. The idea was to provide an optical illusion of a shorter barrel.

Fighter's wit was often greater than that of the engineer. Very interesting, thank you both. Does anyone know as visualized from inside the operator responsible for firing the revolver? Thanks for all the details you aware of its existence, are very interesting.

In painting as in the photo, which barrel to believe that riding? and what actually riding.

The Churchill MK V CS was also fitted with the 95mm bombard - we were trying to hit a house one day and the occupants came out looking up for aircraft - thought they were being bombed !

Do you know what year they began to manufacture the 95mm cannons sherman?. I guess to compete with the 88mm of the tiger, right?

¿Sabeis en que año empezaron a fabricar los sherman con cañones de 95mm?. Imagino que para competir con los 88mm del tiger, ¿no?
