My second cousin Michael Wainwright flew as aircrew (I believe a navigator) in WW2. He was trained in Canada and then flew operationally from UK. My interest up until now has been WW1 research, I have no idea how to research WW2 men. Advice would be appreciated. I have one crumpled picture of him in uniform and the medallion attached below. Can anyone tell me what 9 AOS School was, presumably 9th --School? Thanks. John.
9 AOS, This may have been No. 9 Air Observers School, at R.A.F. Penrhos, Caernaervonshire, Wales. Good luck with your search johng
John, I should also suggest these two sites: www.rafa.org.uk www.worldwar2exraf.co.uk I know of three 'Wainwrights' with R.A.F. and Canadian connections. 1/ LAC. Douglas Wainwright (Airframe Mechanic ) 2/ F/l. Alfred Leslie Wainwright (Admin. Officer) 3/ F/L. Leslie Albert Wainwright (Wireless Officer) 425 Squadron. They were all mentioned in the London Gazette (various dates) regards, johng
