Most grateful! Unfortunately, unless I am doing something wrong, can't find her on CWGC.

    Hi Tony,

Jim Strawbridge over at GWF asked me to take the photo initially so he must have had the details.

Under normal circumstances I would have said yes but I have found a note in my pending file. It would appear that she was taken seriously ill in UK and it was decided that the climate in her homeland, Australia, might be more beneficial for her recovery so one has to assume that she was medically discharged and sent home and died after discharge.

However If the illness was service related I am surprised that she is not commemorated by CWGC. Will have to consider making an enquiry.

PM sent in answer to your 2nd post.

    Regards, Tony

    Hi Tony,

She died in the Military hospital in Melbourne and as stated was the first Australian woman to be accorded a funeral with Full Military Honours. Would that occurred if she was discharged?

I did not receive the PM.

As I said, if her illness was service related then I see no reason why she was not commemorated by CWGC even after her discharge. However, she was in the QAIMNS and under the control of the UK War Office who, for some official error, were not notified about her death. If she had been Australian Army Nursing Service the situation may have been different.

With regard to her military funeral that would have been entirely up to the Australian authorities and may probably have been as a result of public demand, even perhaps from ex-servicemen who she may have nursed.

Would you know the cause of her illness?

Regarding my PM when I went to your UserCP I saw 'send email' so I picked that. Will send it again by PM.

    Regards, Tony

Not going up to Geraldton by any chance Paul?:lol::lol:

For the uninitiated Geraldton is 423kms north of Perth and spidge has 41 headstones he has no chance in hell of getting.[IMG]

I have a 250 kilowatts (340 hp) donk in my Holden Adventra. Would be cheaper for me to fly return to Geraldton than drive.

    Only a 7,682km round trip.o_O

    Hi Paul,

Only having a joke and howing some of the other chaps how far apart these bases existed during the war and the mils to get there.

I did over a 900km trip last weekend to achieve 80 photos from Wagga War and General Cemeteries.

We have what is usally referred to as a scourge of distance.

    Cheers

    Geoff
