If he had something like a straight forward bone fracture his actual time in hospital could be quite short but he would have to go back in at intervals for x-ray and finally for cast removal. Rather than go through all the clerical rigmarole of discharge, readmission discharge readmission etc I believe that he would just be kept 'on the books'. I've seen an example of this from WW1 and assume that if it worked don't change it in WW2

    Thankyou. Very helpful.
My grandfathers records then show him at 2BPD which I assume is a base personnel depot? I can't seem to find anything for this online and wondered where it was based. Any ideas?

    Hi,

Without seeing the entry - could it be 2 BRD - Number 2 Base Reinforcement Depot?

It does look like 2BPD but It could be BRD due to poor quality of writing/copying?

    Hi Michele,

I was working in the dark on the basis your query was Army related but I now see it is an RAF query so P for Personnel is a better fit.

BTW It is always better for other members if you add further service record related queries to the original topic - so the full picture is available - rather than starting a new one.

I have something vaguely similar in my Fathers record. Unfortunately I don't think I will ever be able to resolve it. One possible clue may be in the unit diary. I have seen numerous entries for men, sometimes named or just 'OR's' going to and from hospitals and leave.
Where was the leave pass for? I presume this will be in Italy?

Thanks for your info. Unfortunately the pass doesnt give any location details only the dates (which is really unhelpful!)

Just hold on for a while Michele.

I’ll ask a MOD to merge the 2 topics. May take a couple of hours given they may be working at the moment.
