My request was actually my cousin applying for the records of her husband so no £’s at all involved.
I must admit the speed of return shocked me

I'm going to dive back in soon. This will be the third of my grandfather's brothers, who also served in India and Burma.

    Good afternoon.
Does anyone know if Service Record requests are being processed at this time, with the Services being involved in Coronavirus help?

    Hi,

It’s MOD civil servants who deal with the applications not serving military/naval/air force personnel.

However there may be a delay as they will likely have reduced staff and distance working procedures on their premises.

There have been suggestions that "non essential" civil servants in the MOD will be diverted to other duties, for example contact tracing. I suppose much depends on how "essential" processing service record requests are deemed to be.

    Hi All,

Do we have a definitive telephone number for contacting Glasgow please? I've got a couple on file, but they are for individual staff members up there, who have dealt with my past enquiries. A few of my Chindit Society families are coming back to me worried about the lack of communication from up to 5/6 months ago. I know that coronavirus has severely disrupted the service, but want to help these families with other ways to contact the MOD offices. I've already got the generic email, but was looking for the equivalent telephone number.

    Thanks to all.

The number I have, from their letterhead, is 0141 224 5147. Still waiting for my last one, see #88 above, requested September!

Hi, I sent for my grandad’s army records a few months ago I may be waiting a while ! I know a fair amount of the detail already. A couple of the regiments and units, timings etc, he was in UK RA & Burma Royal Engineers. My question is will the request for his army/military records also mean they send me details of his time in Home Guard (joining & leaving date etc) or do I need to request that separately ? Thanks

Not quite the same thing, but I'm waiting on my citizenship application to be processed by the HO. It was supposed to be completed within 6 months and like you, I sent it off in November. I was notified of the delay back in May and have only just entered stage 2 of the application this past week.

    Hopefully, you'll receive soon!

A few more people I know have had a new communication from Glasgow, saying that their application has moved to the second phase as above. Covid has certainly disrupted the process considerably, but hopefully there may be a future benefit, as the MOD moves to the on line application system. This will I suspect, enable family applications from overseas more straightforward and take away the problem of currency exchange payments.

Disappointing news from MOD today. We applied for my wife's fathers records back in January but the application and cheque have been returned as the cheque was about to expire. So it's back to square one and reapply again!

That's a real pain John. Have they suggested that you re-apply in the same way via post, or switch over to email?

Just says resubmit our request with a new payment. They did say they'd been closed since March but I assume as we've had this letter they've reopened.
Find it quite ridiculous that they're still on a snail mail and cheque system

It is an archaic process no doubt. I've recommended so many families apply for their loved ones records over the years and always with the warning of how long it might take. As I mentioned in post 94, it also makes it quite tricky for overseas applicants in regards currency etc.

    Hello everyone,

Is there someone out there who has requested and obtained service records since the start of the
    Covid -19 pandemic?

I applied for two records in January. I am still waiting! No contact from them at all. My cheques have not been cashed. Wonder if anyone has experienced similar delays or has had better luck perhaps?
