On the attached, the only bit that has me foxed is the entry "TR 5-0-0" . This does not look anything like any of the normal types of entry for that form although I am aware that clerks didn't always enter things in the right place.. What it looks like is £5 0s 0d but what then is TR? Or is it money? Weights were also expressed like that but 5 stone plus is a little light for a mature man! I don't like guesswork but that is all I have with this one. Does anyone know for sure what it refers to? Train Return ?? Max
I would hazard a guess it is related to his medical downgrading but have no idea what it means. Steve Y
Thanks Steve (the more I think about it, I am becoming more convinced it was the train return fare from Matlock to Bath). Max
Medical C = Fit for home service only. Army Medical Catagories (World War Two) - RootsChat.Com TR = Training, Training Reserve (or Records), Trooper, Trimmer. or more likely Transportation Request. Note missing 4 in the date 13/4/3 so could be £ s d signs also missing.
Mmmm, that was what I was thinking until I googled the price of Matlock to Bath and came up with 70p. Strange I thought and looked again it was Matlock to Matlock bath. So guess a rethink on the 5-0-0. Matlock Bath - Wikipedia Matlock and Matlock Bath Images: Matlock Bath: Soldiers Billeted at Cromford Court in WW2
Another mention of Matlock bath Selection centre. BBC - WW2 People's War - Onwards to North Africa with 10th Battalion Green Howards [D.Ormsby : Part 4]
RCG - forgive the rude question. I haven't found TR meaning Transportation Request in any of the many lists of abbreviations I have looked at. Is that simply an educated guess? Max
T R - Definition by AcronymFinder Not sure if its about money anyway, as £5 in them days is equivalent to £216.09p today.
Useful conversion, thank you. Agree it can't be a train fare. Bit dubious now about the acronym anyway, he'd have been given a warrant. Thank you again for your time. Max
