BNAF, CMF, MEF British North Africa Force Central Mediterranenan Force Middle East Force X List explained. X lists (Service Records)
Hi Owen Thank you for your quick response and help would you know, what - M E stands for as well please. Thank you James
Middle East, in that context. For the X-List entry, you want to see what number is given (sometimes an Arabic number '4', sometimes a Roman numeral 'iv'). Uploading the papers here would help.
For those in doubt. A very rough explanation of BNAF, CMF and MEF BNAF British North Africa Force covers all the countries on the northern edge of the continent of Africa From Morrocco to the Egyptian Border. CMF Central Mediterranean Force was more or less Italy and surrounding islands. (not sure about Greece and the Balkans). MEF Middle East Force covered countries from the Turkish Border to Afghanistan and Egypt to India. Hope this helps as the world has changed a bit since WW2. India and its neighbours were referred to as the Far east and Pacific Many of these designations were introduced in conjunction with the Americans when they entered the war to define areas of operational command.
