I'm researching a Great Uncle and I have a few questions about the Service Record I've received

    Cornelius Montague ENRIGHT DoB 12/06/1910
    Pte 6026971 30th Bn Essex Regt 18/07/1940 - 28/01/1943
Dvr T/6026971 519th Infantry Brigade Company, Royal Army Service Corps 30/01/1940 - 23/01/1946

    The queries I have are:
    1. In 1941 he was transferred from hospital (which I've identified) to a Convalescent Depot at ?Latchford Park - see Cas Card. I can only find one in Dublin which seems unlikely. Does anyone know where this was?

    2. 23/02/1942 he is attached to the RAF at Darsham 'for RA' - this was actually called RAF High Street and was a Chain Home radar station - Does the RA mean he was attached to Darsham for his ration allowance, or to the Royal Artillery (operating anti-aircraft guns at High Street)?

    3. on 21/04/1942 he is attached to 2/6 Bn Queens Royal Regt 'Ipswich' at Claydon (just north of Ipswich). That is a bit confusing because one source says they had embarked for Suez on 14/02/1942. Anyone have any idea what the QRR were up to, or was it just general home defence duties?

    4. Does the entry 05/09/1942 'Granted leave with RA at S/L/R 05-13/09/1942' mean with Ration Allowance, and what is S/L/R referring to?

Monty is then transferred to the Royal Army Service Corps. I've identified his unit (519th Infantry Brigade Company, RASC attached 46 Division, X Corps), and will be working my way up Italy with them:

    5. I've opened another thread under RASC to ask this, but if anyone has info on which of the 3 brigades in 46 Division the 519th were attached to, that'd help

    6. Monty travels to North Africa with embarkation 17/06/1943 and disembarkation 27/06/1943. This seems to match Convoy KMF.17 from Clyde/Liverpool to Algiers on Convoyweb ( Arnold Hague convoy database - KMF convoys ) but there are several large troopships in the convoy. The National Archives Board of Trade shipping cards obviously don't list passengers and I'm not hopeful I can identify which ship he was on, but does anyone have any lead?

    7. Can anyone confirm that the GRTD (either General Reinforcement Training Depot or General Refit and Training Depot depending on source) was in Phillipville, Algeria in June 1943, as it was in August?

    8. The entry '27/08/1943 519 Inf Bde Reclassified C1.1A(D) 18/07/1943' - doesn't appear to be a medical reclassification to C1 (home service etc) as he has no corresponding entry in his medical card, and at the same time he's posted to an active service unit. Any ideas?

    9. Some more locations in the service record:
    - the 28/05/1944 '570 Inf BCC Adm 114 Indian FH PO XII' I assume it is No.114 Indian Field Hospital (he has a corresponding medical problem), and I know posted X (ii) is 'evacuated on medical grounds beyond Regimental First Aid Post' but can anyone help with a location for the hospital?
    - He's then discharged to No.165 TC - whichI assume is - Transit Camp?
    - The 04/12/1944 RASC TD (presumably training depot)?
    - For demob leave No 65 TC (presumably Transit Camp, possibly in Villach, Austria)?
    - The code LV83 in the entry for 15/09/1945 'LIAP [Leave in addition to Python] LV83 Embussed Villach [Austria]? A travel route? A flight? A ship? Or nothing meaningful?

Would rather not upload whole service record as its 25Mb, not sure how National Archives would feel about it, and contains some private info, but let me know if that would help.

    Many thanks

Author's other thread is: Infantry Brigade Companies of the Royal Army Service Corps, Italy 1943-1945

This is the best place I've found for abbreviations: WW2 Abbreviations and Acronyms | Researching the Lives and Records of WW2 Soldiers

When I prepare a timeline I ignore the original document details (to the best of my knowledge they were not retained for historians). I would recommend a simple three columns: Date, Information and additional info / research. Landscape is best.

Be aware that the record was maintained by clerks at Regimental HQ; some disagree and several copies existed, notably one with his unit. That means the dates can differ between sheets.
