Many thanks for all the great info on your site. Have searched for hours, but can't find ref to AFMB. My Dad's records say the following: Adm,,10 Sdn Hosp Tox(ii) BLA 4.5.45 O2E 71/45 To Depot RA & SOS BAOR Authy: WOUM/112/ARTY/3608/AG60 d 9/9/45 Sick at home from 1 to 31/10/45 (Does this actually mean "at home" or in UK?) Transferred from Shenley Hosp to Northfield Mil hosp 1/6/45 Discharged Hosp 31/8/45 Sick at home from 1 to 30/11/45 AFMB He did not talk much about his time in the army, but Googling Shenley Hosp and Northfield, it seems they may have been psychiatric hospitals. In the record section Medical Boards it says the following: Med cat "c" for 6 months 30/8/45 PT ii o 80/15 19/10/45 Medical board QA Hospital Millbank IWD on 31/5/46. Placed on medical cat c for 6 months finally BNT. 31/5/46 PTii No 23, 13 (post)Prov Coy. Authy. MBO/9397/46b/d 31/5/46 Happily, he survived what ever problems he had to be a funny, fabulous man. Can anyone shed any light? Oh - when the service record says "embarked" - does it mean actually boarding ship? Record says embarked UK 6/6/45. He did not mention being part of D Day landings. He was 2nd Lt 112 regt HAA RA. Many thanks
Smartipaints Northfield Hospital in SE Birmingham - pre and early war was a TB hospital- then after D Day it became an Orthopedic Hospital where many Canadians - less various limbs - took up residence until fitted with prosthetics and able to use same before being shipped home..... AFMB possible Army Field Medical Board - supervising sick at Home (?) Embarked means On board ship..... check your dates - D Day was in '44 - I believe Cheers Millbank was the Officers main hospital for examinations and medical assessments
