Great research Rob and Pieter, and a good read. Well done.
Nice to hear that two members of Tutt's family might benefit as well.

    Hi Mike

The Sister of Norman Tutt will be passing all of the information I have given her to a relative in Canada. That was the other person who was researching Norman Tutt on the Lancaster Forum.

    Cheers - Rob

I had a lovely telephone conversation this afternoon with Eileen Tutt (Norman's Sister). I learnt that the entire crew survived bailing out over the UK from another aircraft due to the damage sustained on returning from one of their missions. All became members of the caterpiller club and she has the badge in her possession today.

following on from the above thread I am interested in any information regarding another plane that took part in this raid that was lost at Kleinwijk Holland. All the crew were killed and are burried at Uden War Cemetry. The crew were Ronald Douglas Benning, Alan Maxwell Coulthard, Eric Hesketh, Thomas Hughes, David Henry MacTier, Arthur Frederick Paramore, Ronald Douglas Wood. The person I am particularly interested in is Eric Hesketh Service number 124703 died 9 April 1943. I can only assume that as the date is listed as 9 April that this plane was lost on the way to Duisburg unlike the previous one that is listed as 10 April after the raid. Any help greatfully appreciated.

    Hi Keithb.

The Operations record book states that 3 aircraft of the 6 from 9 Squadron that took off for Duisburg that night were lost. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the page which lists the crew with Eric Hesketh.

The book shows that the aircraft took off at around 20-45pm on the night of the 9th and the ones that returned, came back at around 01-00 onwards on the morning of the 10th.

The aircraft seem to cross the Dutch coast on the way to Duisburg and return by way of Belgium/France. If they were shot down and buried at Uden, they most likely died on the 9th as listed on CWGC.

    Hope that helps.

    Regards - Rob

According to Bomber Command Losses - W R. Chorley. No.9 Squadron Lancaster III ED806 WS-L with the above crew, took off from Waddington at 2045 hrs on 9th April and was shot down by a night-fighter and crashed at 2334 hrs.

Seems the aircraft was lost on the way to the target.

Maj Werner Streib of St1/NJG1 is listed as having shot down a Lancaster 17Km North East of 's-Hertogenbosch at about the same time. It is in the approximate location of the crash site.

    Hi ramacal
My Mum's brother as Sgt William Jakeway who was shot down on the 9/10 April 1943,
We visited the grave in April 2010 and have more photos if anyone would like them. I also have a better photo of the plane and photo of Bill ( William ). My Mum is 84 now and i think it unlikely she will be able to visit Oudewater again. Thank you for all the information you have found out. Stephen

A little memorial in Oudewater. The crew of the aircraft is mentioned on one of the sides of it.
