Hi All I have literally thousands of unit war diaries in my archives that I have copied over the years. If your bored drop me a direct message and I'll see if I have of interest for you that will help with your research and kill the boredom. My normal rate of 10p per page for a complete file/diary still applies but instead of paying me I'll ask you donate the fee to my 6 year old sons military charity fundraiser. Cheers Andy
Hi I was wondering if you could help me obtain copies of war diaries for the 2 bttn Northumberland Fusiliers in Italy ? My father was a vickers gunner and was at Salerno so I think he would have been with Group 1 or 3 of the bttn or may be moved between the 2 groups . Many thanks Paul
I have the following diaries for the 2nd Bn Northumberland Fusiliers. Battalion diary covering Jan to Apr 1944 Battalion diary covering May to Aug 1944 Battalion No.2 Support Group covering Jan to Apr 1944 Battalion D Company covering Jun to Aug 1944 Let me know if you'd like any and I'll direct message you the cost for them. Regards Andy
Andy, Do you have any copies of the POW Interrogation Reports in the WO208 series? I'd be interested in any that cover POWs captured in Normandy or in Italy in 1943-44. Regards Tom
I'd like a detailed report on the Rat Patrol please, the guys in the gun jeeps that ran wild and wreaked havoc behind the German lines in Libya....Rommel's main nemesis. Really I want to check for historical inaccuracies with the TV series about the that ran back in the '60s. At your convenience of course, no terrible rush please.
I meant a National Archives file reference? You can search for them here: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
No, the I have looked at them and whilst they are interesting they don't appear to be in a very logical order. From memory they are date order but not very accurately.
Ummmm, not exactly. I don't think that the Rat Patrol was an organized unit with a TO & E, w/dedicated logistics or in anyone's OOB. Kind of an ad hoc organization, and made up the rules as they saw fit and such.
Thanks mate, I guess I'll just have to go there (whenever that is possible) and have a nose about in them. Regards Tom
I copied some random ones once from a file for Diane to transcribe and share on here. They were quite good, especially the ones on the captured divers trying to blow up the Nijmegen Bridge IIRC.
