Hi, I`m trying to research (for my father and I) what happened to the lads who were captured on Crete by the Germans in WW2. I have photo`s of my grandad with his pal Victor Nutman in Stalag 4c. They wrote home on the back of the photo`s and were stamped STALAG IVc. My grandad did talk about the war and being a POW at Stalag 4c. We never found out his Prisoner number or service number. He wouldn`t talk about it because it disturbed him. His name is Joe Draper, he lived at 7 Church End, Cottenham Cambs. If anyone can help, I will appreciate it very much indeed. Kind regards Steve

Kind regards Steve Steve, do you know what Regiment he served with? If he was Royal Artillery ar signals then there are a one or two that are possible match's on ancestry. P.
Been away for a long time working. How are you all ? My friend has asked me about her dad and if I can find some more info on him in the war. Here goes: Harry Collin (Sapper - Royal Engineers) Date of birth 17-6-1918 Service number 4864590 Leicestershire Regiment. Apparently they were attached to the 8th Army or something like that. I would be grateful if anyone can help.
Hi Steve, service records will provide lots of info and allow identification of where he was, when, and with what unit. You can then identify and locate his units war diaries for more detailed unit activity. Some on here can likely give you some general info on the 8th Army or Leicestershire Regiment, but unless you know when he was attached to them, where, and what he was doing it would be speculation. No hits on a European, Italian, or Japanese POW Search. I'm assuming she would know if he was KIA. Following link outlines how to apply for his service records. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/searching-someone-military-genealogy/47584-ww2-soldier-research-basic-training.html Cheers, Wayne
