    Anyone know what this means?

    Draft RBYHF 16.01.1943

I think that may just be the 'orders' from which his embarkation to Egypt was derived, Andy. He was sent out as a GH replacement, but to which battalion - 1st, 6th or 7th - wasn't determined until he got to Egypt. You would of course have expected him to have spent some time at a replacements depot before his posting, but no mention of that.

The last two letters could be 'H Force' for 'Husky Force'. I've seen transfers from BNAF to CMF so referred to. I have no better explanation...

This is just a draft code for sailing. As Tom Canning keeps saying, it is just a code the soldiers had on their kits and papers before embarking on the ship. (in this case to the Middle East on 16.1.1943)

I've read Tom's wise words about these codes, Lesley. I think it worked like the 'Bagtag' that check-in stick on your luggage at airports nowadays, i.e. they know the aeroplane (or ship) it is supposed to be stowed on and its destination. It therefore must have stood for something, rather than being totally random. Ergo, they knew where to send the kit if it got separated from the soldier; always assuming no-one ransacked or stole it. If so, it could also indcate that Uncle Ted was also destined for a certain place in Egypt.

I don't think anyone knows enough about these draft codes to be certain though!

    Best,

    Steve.

    Hello Simon,

I've tried to open up the Album in your previous Message, which tells me I don't have permission to do so and maybe I need to log-in (even though I am already logged-in) and I cannot locate it in the Gallery via a search or in your Personal Profile (Gallery). At a loss...

Are you able to remedy this?

    Best,

    Steve.
