Hi, My father, Desmond John Street, 54652, was a pilot in 582 sdn during 1943/1944, and was awarded the DFC on 14/11/44 and the Bar on 23/3/45. I am trying to find out how, and why, we won these medals, and I believe the ORBs may shed some light. Can anyone help?
Welcome to the forum. The Squadron Operations Record Books have been digitised and can be purchased directly from the National Archives website. Here's a list for 582 Squadron: The National Archives | Search results:"582" It can get a little expensives to get all the months unfortunately. Although the ORB is not going to tell much about why your father received his DFCs. Lee
And some entries in the London Gazette mentioning promotions and award of bar to DFC: Viewing Page 2479 of Issue 36534 Viewing Page 5141 of Issue 36787 Viewing Page 5206 of Issue 36793 Bar to DFC (no citation) Viewing Page 1596 of Issue 36997
