I wonder if anyone can help. I'm not very IT literate and find the National Archives not very user friendly. I subscribe to it but am getting nowhere. I have my Father's rank, number and unit yet still nothing. If you search Eighth Army - nothing. Search his Corps - nothing. I have papers that name him as driver with Eighth Army Signals and another paper stating Royal Signals. He was in one of these units in Africa/Egypt for most of the war. I even have his war dept driving permit. I also of many photo's of the desert campaign but can't find any history of him. Would like some help !

Hello Ben Could you manage to post the papers you have and any photos of your father? Unless you apply for his service records unfortunately you won't know exactly which unit he was in. Here is the link to apply for them Ministry of Defence | About Defence | What we do | Personnel | Service Records | Making a Request for Information held on the Personnel Records of Deceased Service Personnel and Home Guard records Make sure you apply for the FULL records. Unfortunately they can take up to 12 months. Any information at all, no matter how small, please tell us about as other members may be able to help you. Lesley I see Clive has already provided the link!
