Books are Books and as I have said many times the original source usually comes up trumps every time.

This is just a thought, but the 2nd, 4th & 5th Bns of the Royal Sussex Regiment were formed into 10th Bn Para Regt in 1943.

If you look at the movements in his diary, they are in line with the above.

I will re-read the thread, and if I've got it wrong will shut up.....

Pete you are spot on about the Sussex Battalions but If we take Sousse, as a starting point it does indeed tie in with the 10th but it also matches 2 Para who were there at that date as well, but 10 Para did not go to Sicily 2 Para did,Later on Grantham fits 2 paras movements but at the same time 10 Para were at Somerby. And if like I did we look at the War diaries for Arnhem and Sicily then it seems likely Vooghts was with 2 Para from the start of his joining the Para's. About the Bruneval Raid's pictures, He had that maybe because he trained for this Raid and he didn't participe. There was 120 (or 119 ?) who participed of the Raid, but there was 148 paratroopers who trained ! So, maybe he was part of 28 paratroopers who trained for the raid but not participed.

    Very good pictures !!
