Searching for Harold Fores / family

Hi,
I've just signed up so forgive me if posted in wrong place

On may 17th 1940, my great uncle was killed in Belgium. His mother travelled all the way from Wales to Belgium to see his temporary grave and she took two photos.

Next to my uncles temp grave in 1 photo is Harold Fores, Service Number: 4971915, of Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment) 2nd Bn.

I'd been trying to find any family of his to pass this photo on and possibly see a photo of Mr Fores. The died on the same day, likely together.

They are now buried next to each other in HEVERLEE WAR CEMETERY.

If anyone could point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it. I've been searching for years but can't find anyone with his surname in the Notts area

There is a chap name of "Wayne Buck" on Ancestry that has a tree for Harold Fores (please see screenshots of same below).

It may be worthwhile for you to contact "Wayne Buck" on the chance he has, or knows of, any family connection.

There may not be any family.

George Fores married Sarah Carter at Worksop in the September 1902 Qtr.

Harold was born at Worksop in the June 1914 Qtr. Older sister Minnie was stillborn there in the March 1912 Qtr.

No luck with any marriage for your subject. That usually accounts for the lack on information on a CWGC entry.

Thank you, Jim. I've always wanted to put a face to Mr Fores. Glyn & his story were featured in Roger Waters " The Wall " concerts visuals 2010- 2013. We did an entire day of filming for a mini documentary, but it was never released ( as of yet anyway ). Thats when i first started trying to track down the Fores family, to no luck.

Thank you Jim. I've now spoken to his 2nd cousin you found and hopefully i can get the photo of Harolds temporary grave to him, hopefully he will have contact with other family members. I achieved more on here in hours than i have in years. Thank you again and all the best

Hi, I’m a relative of Harold Fores. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. My grandma was Harold’s girlfriend at the time of his death and she then went on to marry a distant relative of Harold’s who became my grandad. I live in Worksop as do much of the family. Some are also in Perth, Australia.

 

Wow, was not expecting this today. Thanks for that info. He's been a total mystery to me. I've been searching for years, even on newspapers.com for any mention of him. Will get his temporary resting place photo to you my grandmother took.
