Sorry to be a pain today. I am having trouble using the SE. I am looking for men in 72nd Medium Regiment RA. When I enter '72' and 'Medium' and use the drop down unit menu for RA I get nothing. If I don't use the drop-down it still says no results. What am I doing wrong?

The reason I was interested was this quote from the BBC site: Once when we heard someone had been killed, we found out it was twins that had been killed. They were expert athletes and were in their prime and they had won everything within the Regiment, boxing any sport they went in for - they won it. But to know that they had been killed it just wasn't right. BBC - WW2 People's War - D-Day: 72nd Medium Regiment Royal Artillery Doesn't seem to identify them, however.
Thought I had twins then but alas no CWGC :: Casualty Details Name:WHITE, ALLANInitials:ANationality:United KingdomRank:GunnerRegiment/Service:Royal ArtilleryUnit Text:72 Medium Regt.Age:26Date of Death:01/04/1945Service No:937431Additional information:Son of Fred and Christina White, of Workington, Cumberland; husband of Mair Eluned White, of Wrexham, Denbighshire. What am I doing wrong? Make sure you put the data in the correct field. Easily done wrong. 72 med should be in the unit text field. I've done this wrong a few times! I have had a problem on rare occasions when it seems to ignore data entered into a particular field and you get incorrect results since the field did not apply any filtering. Odd one that. geoff

Doesn't seem to identify them, however. 33 of the 36 of these records have the phrase "son of....", I could apply my 'Brother Finder' to these. ("son of...." is very common, but "brother of...." rarely found, even when a brother also fell) There are also two more attached to this unit, Jervis, Army Catering Corps and Fletcher, Royal Corps of Signals. Neither of these fit as brothers within the unit. geoff
I fear that the vet in question may have got this wrong. Easily done after so many years. However I ran the finder for the 73 regt men against all other casualties - no match was found. geoff
Geoff I continue to admire your "Geoff's Super Search" as it would more appropriately named The other day I was wondering what, if anything, putting "Jew" into the UNIT TEXT box would produce and apart from several men from the Palestine Rgt and Jewish Brigade Group it threw up "HMS Jewell". Just out of interest, what effect does the inclusion of inverted commas have ? Thanks Ron ps Having posted this, I did what I should have done in the first place and consulted your HELP facility. I now see under Unit text Enter text to identify the battalion, ship or unit. Do not enter too much text, less is usually better and avoid using . or ". Observe spaces. Some GOOD examples: 4th bn 2nd/4th 50th bty lusitania Good Hope
Ron, I continue to admire your "Geoff's Super Search" as it would more appropriately named Yes it is rather "super" init. Just out of interest, what effect does the inclusion of inverted commas have ? Yes, it tends to mess things up and find nothing. Quotes gets converted to " - which is the HTML version. Very few people bother to RTFM, so quite a few searches fail. (they are all logged into a log file so I can see how the thing is running). cheers, geoff
