This could be of interest. A group of researchers is currently searching for the crash sites of 3 ww2 fighters in the Villafranca area.

    The planes are:

P-47D Thunderbolt D-28 RE serial number 44-19664 "Little Sarah" shot down by flak on 14/3/1945 after an attack on Villafranca airbase.
Pilot was Lt. Leon E. Tracy, born in Nashua, Iowa in 1922, bailed out safely and is atill living in Tucson, Arizona.

Me 109G "black 8" from 2nd Gruppo RSI shot down by P 51s on 19/4/1945 while attempting to intercept a B25 raid. Pilot Tenente Betti bailed out safely.

P-47D R28-RE serial number 42-26819 "Chicago Kid II Hey Chickens!" shot down by flak on 22/4/1945 while strafing after an attack a railway bridge. Pilot Glenn A. Faulkner's was not seen to bail out.

(link is in Italian there is also a google map of probable crash sites)
