A new game from HPS Simulations called Sealion 40, a game about as you know the Invasion of Britain either in July or September. Have got this game and its the usual HPS graphics.

Been trying my hand as German vs Computer, in September of 40, landed on the 24th still trying to capture Folkestone but have pushed up towards London.

Now im not overly impressed with the A1 in places, 1st Armoured attacked on the left flank and stopped, until i had surrounded them and whittled them down, on the other side the Canadians are just staying in place as well, yet ive had Home Guard and the Aussies launching attacks.

Their is no restriction on what lands on the beaches, which makes taking a port a waste of time so it appears nor any point in taking a Airfield. Id hope a patch changes this, im going to write and see what they say.

Still HPS do make patches and their games are a way of passing the time, maybe this game is more suited to HtH than solo, so if anyone has a copy id be interested in having a game.

Well, historically that's what the plans were - the Canadians hold a given area while it was the PRE-planned job of the NZ and Austrlains to counterattack. "Holding" forces like the Canadians were to counterattack on an as-and-when basis I.E reactively, within their own divisional area - but for example MILFORCE including the NZEF was to "charge" down from Maidstone to Ashford, then sweep the ground across towards Folkestone. Alternatively, starting at Canterbury, they were to counterattack East if there were landings as far up the coast as Deal.

Looks like the AI is pretty rigidly programmed with the historical orders ;) Which in the case of Selion is ALL there is to go on! LMAO

Well im still fighting around Ashford against the New Zealanders, but have captured Maidstone, also advancing on Crowborough, a lone motorcycle company has captured an undefended Gravesend, and on the other side, fighting in Brighton escalates. Elements of 1st London Div are still holding onto Folkestone.

Cantebury has fallen but now is just rubble.

Broke through troops from 1st London Div and bypassed Ashford and Canterbury, right flank fighting Folkestone, Paratroopers advanced on Canterbury and Ashford till troops sorted themselves out, now expanding after taking Canterbury to take Ashford and then mop up the rest of the ports such as Dover.

Tough fighting at Crowborough and pesky stay behind units causing delays, Scouting troops find troops forming up on outskirts of London and running into pillboxes past maidstone.

Total losses 20k Killed wounded or missing plus 300 vehicles, British losses roughly the same

They're still hors de combat - and out of the"game" so to speak

It's an interesting total - absolutely bloody HUGE - about 27% of the First Wave plus FJ; has a Second Wave landed yet?

Sounds very interesting Gliderrider, if I had the time to play I would get a copy of that. Have you tried the Allied defence yet?

phylo_roadking.... Yes most Germans have landed now, waiting two days for their armour to arrive, however by then i hope to have a large chunk of South Coast, will send Panzers towards London, resistance by British is now fairly stationary along river lines.

Mike L..... No not tried as British yet, thats next.

Overall im thinking this is a two player game more than solo, certainly for the Campaigns, id have less luck and not so easy a run i think.

Is it worth the money? Yes

A boardgame called Codeword Cromwell a solo game is coming out, representing a villages fight against German Paras and Tanks and a spy, its on BoardgameGeek site looks very good

IF the AI is programmed properly - this is where the resistance should stiffen - for halting the Germans along static defence lines allows the British to concentrate artillery...which they were pretty much back up on estabishment in by September 1940...
