    There are a number of interesting pages in the diary of 105 Provost Company covering the plans for the entry to Florence and then detailing the first days in the (semi) liberated city. WO170/3547. It wasn't just the Germans who were causing trouble!

    Original wartime caption: A view of the city from a church tower overlooking the River Arno. All the bridges were blown, except Ponte Vecchio. This bridge is screened in smoke, behind it can be seen the tower of the Palazzo Vecchio.
