This is not an norwegian military abbreviation and not the (dog tag?) number either, but it could be british.

I'm now in doubt of my first thought that SBOS would have been a british ww2 unit.

Could it be that my late father ment SBOs, but what about y.reg then?

The only extra information I have is: "Left service 15 days before I got married 1948, but rejoined '53 on request of Leif Larsen - Shetlandsgjøken."

    Welcome greetings Ivar.

You know of "The Shetland Bus" yes?

    Leif Larsen, alias "Viking".

    The Crewmen

Your reference highly likely to be Norwegian intelligence/secret service related.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

And Ivar, your info stating "rejoined '53 on request of Leif Larsen" may have been to assist with the project reported on in the .pdf. (attached below).

Another thought too, "Shetlandsgjoken" in English language literally would be "Shetlands cuckoo". This could be a name for the project while it was being worked upon (there was usually secrecy in projects that had commercial possibilities).

Good luck with your search. And please be aware that these are only thoughts and possibilities, nothing certain (yet!).

Other folks who contribute here will hopefully chip in with more information.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

Yes I do Jim, a very famous norwegian, but there have been skirmishes lately regarding his time in Vinterkrigen (Finland against Russia ´39/ 40). And his daughter har just lost a case regarding the ownership of his medals.
