These photographs were taken for me in 1992 at Marienheide, Sauerland, West Germany. It says ; In memory of the sons of the community of Marienheide who fell during the world war. They died, and until death were true to their homeland and fatherland.
It would have been Germany in 1992. West Germany ceased to exist on 3rd October 1990. German reunification - New World Encyclopedia
It's a first class source for German memorials but having searched around Marienheide,it fails to throw up that memorial. [Was around that area on holiday in August 1992 when we visited the the three dams in one day on our way from the Harz to the next stage of the holiday on the Mosel. The area is part of the Regional Natural Park...beautiful area] [One point, having travelled into the former East Germany while in the Harz which straggled the former border, the look out towers on the Brocken were still standing and It was most apparent that the former DDR was a different country from West Germany .....petrol stations still very sparse following reunification and abundant trabbies parked and on the roads....roads,many cobbled...... which had not been upgraded and were not capable of handling HGV loads.Steam trains running through the main roads in Nordhausen....what a beautiful sight.] [I Remember being advised by the hotel owner not to venture into East Germany...they are all nullkopts she said.]
Hi, Harry ... I cycled through the area last Summer, and many of the secondary roads, though fewer than in the 90-'ies, still are cccoobbbbllleeddd .... I was staying at Wernigerode and from there you can still travel to the Brocken by steam-train
Here is the 1992 copy / translation given to me at that time. He was a work colleague who had a German Father and English Mother. In August 1992 he and his father visited Germany and brought these photographs back for me.
