Are people allowed to buy ammo in the UK? Dave, Do you mean Legally or Illigally Legally you must have the relevent registration or licence documents for the gun. Regards Tom
My husband said the very same! The whole thing doesn't make sense to me, how you can 'forget' having 300 rounds is beyond me. My husband brought back from Afghanistan a 105 artillery shell which had been cut and polished to make it in to a wine cooler. He had to jump through hoops and I still have the certificate saying he could bring it back - keeping it just incase!!
They do make the rules quite clear don't they! And then they tell you again, incase you didn't hear the first time. Then make you sign some paperwork stating the rules. Then check you understand. Then give you a certificate, and you get to bring your shiny 'proffed' item home. Has there been any mention of where these 300 rounds came from? I've possibly missed that one. Whatever happens, his career is over...
The rounds came from various range days in the UK. His wife said in interview that he was very busy rushing about and had rounds left over from training in his pockets and he'd just empty his pockets when he got back to his room and over time they just built up. I might add it's a military offence to take rounds off a range and not to do a declaration. 'Sir, I have no live rounds, empty cases or parts there of in my possession, Sir' with ya heals together That said whenever I have seen them they are a law unto themselves and just do what they like.
Whilst re-reading the background to this thread I was reminded of a late friend Dave Biber who had served in Burma in ww2 and who had a Japanese sword displayed in his home complete with the original certificate that gave him permission to own it. http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/22627-the-mystery-behind-daves-japanese-swords/ Ron
hi jedburgh22 nov,11.2012.06:09am.re: sas soldier jailed.a sad thread.i know rules have been broken.come on,this man laid his life on the line.a reprimand (sever) should have been anought .it strikes me somebody does not like our hero.there will be mumbling in the ranks.thanks for posting.ps,it strikes me we still have some colonel blimps in our ranks, have a good day,bernard85
The Falklands boys were not allowed their souvenirs...Anyone serving in forces knows the history and the offence...Although the mod takes its souvenirs I'll note...But servicemen of all hues..know the score. As to others packing boxes...they would have known the score too.
What an interesting thread! I remember thinking that the bloke in question was being treated harshly - how dare they, a hero - thank you for showing me another side to this story. I'm still spitting chips that my dad had to hand his Commando dagger in. Pfffft!
I feel you may well be having a little titter. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-23255890 Hadn't heard that his housemate had also been done previously for possession of a pistol but, perhaps sensibly, seems to have taken the punishment more on the chin. I have visions of assorted military types heading off to the woods with a spade, & armouries suddenly finding they have a lot more Pistols in stock than they thought they had....
First: - I bet they are having a bigger laugh about it on ARRSE, but yes there was the odd chuckle from me yesterday when I heard. Second - Did you see the his first Police video interview on the news? The idiot coughed the job, I thought they were trained in resisting interrogation techniques? He blatantly admitted having the firearm and had been meaning to get it deactivated but said something to the coppers like 'You know how it is when your busy'. I can imagine the coppers sympathetically nodding and agreeing with him to get him on side (Good Cop) but inside continually saying to themselves 'YES keep talking, keep talking, YES, YES, YES' with every admission of guilt. He had legal representation too who must have been working for the Police because any brief worth their salt would have told him to 'No Comment' the interview His defence for the admission was his brain injury from that walk in the Jungle and made him say the wrong things What annoyed me yesterday was the public appeal for support from his wife (Can you tell I don't like her?) after telling everyone they are close to being financially bankrupt - Basically 'Keep sending us money your suckers-We love spending it'. I could go on but if he had manned up and done his time at Coli he'd be out now and remember Coli isn't a prison its like doing basic training again: http://www.army.mod.uk/agc/provost/31929.aspx Ref the weapons being buried - I think they were all buried when he got his first conviction.
I presume there is something in the insinuation - well, it was more of a statement in the press, that the SAS and SBS think of themselves as being somewhat above the rules?
