Hello to everybody on the forum. This is the first time I have ever been on a forum, so please excuse me if I make any errors while I am learning. I found a thread for WW2TALK while researching original SAS members Chalky White and Pat Riley. I only have a couple of poor quality photos of Pat Riley, but have already built up quite a bit of info on him. I only started on Chalky White earlier today, and am already finding out a fair amount of info. The reason for my interest is that we have just completed the total restoration of a 1942 SAS Desert Jeep. I have displayed it twice, and it seems the general public have a lot of interest in this subject. Therefore I am trying to complete some histories to use as teaching aides. I also want to start research on Joe Schofield of Manchester who was also an original. Any help on these people will be greatly appreciated. With Thanks, Luke
Welcome Luke, some info on Chalky here, http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/special-forces/25399-chalky-white-1st-sas.html
Luke, I would really like to see this jeep once you're finished with it. I too have a hardback book on the SAS as well.. Welcome to the forum! Heather
Thank you for the quick reply. That info was the thread that brought me to WW2TALK. Some of it was incorrect, and i think i have filtered it and cross referenced it, and hopefully come up with the right info. Did you notice that the record of Chalky posted by Peter Marshall, the dates don't add up? I think I have sorted them to make sense. Thanks, Luke
Hi! I live in knutsford cheshire. I've met a bloke in my local supermarket who i think was one of the 'originals'. The only thing he told me he was that parachuted in to Italy to blow up a viaduct but were quickly captured. " a total f******* cock up" he said over a cuppa. No back up plan or rescue operation. Spent the rest of the war as a POW. He's on crutches now---but his brain and sense of humour is still in his late teens. After the war he took up free fall parachuting, which has " F****** up the old hips" he thinks.---- " But the old todger still works " he added! I'v seen him in a documentary on TV about the SAS and he said he has recently been approached about doing another thing on tthe subject.
Luke, yes I know at the time something was mentioned so cheers for that, here is an article from the Telegraph, about Scofield, and two other SAS vets returning to France 60 years on. SAS veterans gather in France to honour comrades - Telegraph
Thanks wtid45, that's a brilliant start for Joe's info. Looks like i have definitely come to the right forum!

Thanks Ranville, If you ever see that chap again, can you please get more info. Be aware that "everybody" was in the SAS. The biggest regiment in the world apparently. The only originals that I believe are still alive are Jim Storie, Gordon Partridge and Joe Schofield. Thanks, Luke

Thanks RCG. I have seen the programme, but there is a programme on the History Channel Called The SAS Originals. I don't receive the channel, so have not seen it yet, but there are good interviews with Originals. Cheers, Luke
