Hello, My name is Sumer and I am a college student looking for a WW2 veteran who would be kind enough to let me interview them for an history assignment. The interview can be done via email or instant messaging. If anyone is interested please email me as soon as possible at emadyan1@yahoo.com. Thank you.
Gerry Chester was in the British Army during the War; he is one of the moderators and, I believe given your email address, lives on your side of the Atlantic. In any case, there are lots of first-hand accounts in books and on the Internet to help fill in any blanks. Richard
Hi Brian - nice to see you here as well. I hope you will post some of your memories of your time with Monty's Iron Sides for us?
I am merging this topic with another so that we can have a dedicated space to 'Sapper' - Brian Guy - so that he can share some of his WW2 memories with us. Could a moderator for this area please move it to the War in Europe section?
Great stuff. The "Garden Roller," I assume that was the "Flail" tank, the Sherman with the drum in front.
Brian, I sit corrected, and I thank you for adding your memoirs to this group as well as the WBG group.
Sapper, Amazing reading. I have a copy of the field manual no40 series about enemy mines, but this brings it so much more to life to read your experiences. I see from photos that the germans would also booby trap mines by placing a small charge with a pull switch under so when you pulled up the mine another woudl go off underneath buried deeper! Kind regards MG
To be honest I got very angry reading postings attacking the British army, and my mates. Specially because I left many good friends behind from Sword Beach to Bremen. perhaps it was done a bit on the spur of the moment...But I do take great exception when slurs are cast on those that gave the ultimate sacrifice...Their lives. I know that the British fighting man has none better anywhere in the world. I had the doubtful priviledge of seeing it all first hand. And indeed, paid a very severe price for that experience or priviledge... At 81 and one of the few able, or indeed, capable of recalling and posting what happened from Normandy onwards. If you had been genuinely interested? My apologies. Cheers. Sapper
