I ran into this forum and have very much enjoyed it sofar. I feel angry:mad: that here in Canada the school system seems to ignore the two great wars like they would get the plague if they uttered a word. To me a lot of what they are teaching is verbal diarhea and they should be teaching stuff that has had a more recent effect than suff that happened thousands of years ago. It is all important but to me recent history is for more important. I wish I had the knowlege that some of the members on this board but maybe in time:confused: Thanks

I am surprised, Canada did play a role in the war and thought that would have been part of the teaching.

History is important, no matter how old, in fact it could be argued that the further back in history you go, the more important it was in shaping the times we live in today.

Time is the element that gives you the knowledge many here have, in fact I am sure nobody will tell you they learnt everything they know in the last 6-12 months. The last 10-15 years probably.

    Welcome on Board. :D

Yes, the wonders of Modern Education and the Touchy-Feely society(Feel free to Barf now).

I sympathize with todays students and the PC crap they have to put up with when they should spend more time with the core basics Reading,Writing,Math,Science, History,Language,Music,Sports and Geography.

But Ancient History is wonderful, unless you have a crappy teacher.;)

Agreed. I don't recall covering any WWII (or WWI) in high school... other then the Holocaust.

I would of rather of learned about WWII then the War of 1812.

The name calamazoo come from the Hoyt Axton song "Della and the dealer". It is what I call my truck but some folks started calling me Calamazoo. I see by ErikH that history taught in Canadian schools hasn't changed much. in 20 years.

Yep. The only time I really got to do anything on WWII was in gr. 12 history where I did a report on Rev. John Weir Foote (Dieppe). But that was an independent project chosen by me, it wasn't assigned.

It always seemed that we would start in the 1700's, and move our way through time, but never quite made it to WWI before the semester ended.
