Personally, I don't believe in corporal punishment, and I also believe that there was extreme haste in this act, especially as he was still being tried for other crimes.

He/they can only be hanged once.

Personally I believe it was better than he deserved and although I dont advocate corporal punishment either, as Spidge says he and they accepted it as part of their culture.

He ensured so much suffering that he would ultimately have been lead to the gallows at some point, easier to concentrate on a crime they could prove and therefore execute him for than trying to spend more years proving the massive humanitarian sufferinf inflicted over the last few decades.

It would have been interesting if he could have written his autobiography before his death. Maybe, there would have been some things that America and its allies didn't want the world to know. I suppose silence is all for the best.
Just hope the whole affair in Iraq ends in some sort of peace but I have a forboding that it will go on and end in another fiasco and a loss of face for America etc. A real shame, do we never learn?

there will never be peace in the middle east..

what i cant understand is other dictators are just has bad as sadam and are still in power ...

the uk backed the cuban guy because maggie had an aliance with him..

one rule for one and one for the other thats why i think sadam should have been spured the death and jailed for life...or sent to the uk

I don't usually agree with hanging, but for him, yes.

It is good that he is now gone, although I too thought hanging was to good for him. I also agree with raf in that there will not be peace in the middle East, at least for another generation or so.

    Funny you should say that.

    corporal punishment

Isn't that is what is now banned in schools?
I'm sure he'd loved to have just got the cane.

We're talking Capital Punishment here guys.

I wished they'd thrown a white phosporous grenade into the pit they'd found him in.
My brother-in-law who was out there in 2003 for the war was chuffed to bits today.
He wanted to see the whole of the execution.

So when do we hang the leaders of Burma and Sudan....

two countries who have regimes still in power who have killed more of their own people than Saddam.

People show some damn respect at the enemy.Sadam deserve what he get ,it doesn't metter how he died ,he is just dead

I am showing respect. If it is true that his guards mocked him on his last night, then that was wrong. I find it difficult to rejoice in the death of any individual, even Saddam, but then I am not one of the people who's family he wiped out. Politically he was no longer relevant; I think of his hanging as I would the death of a common criminal.

The man was going to be executed I dont think that was ever an issue, it was more when rather than if. Maybe executing him was wrong but I think there are a lot of people who have suffered under Saddam who might have a different opinion

Just another life lost in the $h!t hole that is Iraq.

No one is better off with him dead... the Iraqi's are probably worse off as the civil war will probably escalate.
