Hi, I am looking for a crew list for this merchant ship that was used in the evacuation of Dunkirk. Does anyone know where I can find this information? I just would like to clarify that a William Edward Boswell ( Unfortunately service number unknown )served on this ship during this operation. Would also love to know who he served alongside too. Any help appreciated. Many Thanks. :)

    Hi,

I moved your post to its own thread so its not lost-I suspect Roy Martin maybe able to steer you in the right direction. I couldn't find a file specific to her but Roy maybe know of a general one on Op Dynamo that contains some info.

    Cheers

    Hello and welcome,

Was William Edward Boswell in the RN or was he MN (NAP)?

'GOLDEN EAGLE' was requisitioned by the Navy in 1940 therefore she came under the jurisdiction of the RN. Her crew would be a mixture of RN regulars and merchant seamen on T124X agreements.

If your man was Royal Navy then his service records would be your starting point. If Merchant Navy on a T124 agreement (NAP - Naval Auxiliary Personnel) there may be surviving pouches in BT 390 at Kew.

If I were you I would email: navysearchpgrc@tnt.co.uk and ask if they have crew lists for GOLDEN EAGLE in 1940 [I am not sure but if you don't ask you will never know] - they probably also have the service record for William Edward Boswell if indeed he was RN.

    Regards
    Hugh
