just an update. i have taken the gun relic to my local police station, luckily there was an Arms expert on duty. he took one look and said it would have to be destroyed not sure who looked more sad him or me, as he agreed a great piece of history. Although i have a chance of saving the gun part itself just need to find someone to help de arm it. i have a couple of people in mind. it is in safe hands at the moment.
He also said as long as you dont throw it in a fire or hit hard, it would of been ok. just needed to be treated with respect.

I think you have done the right thing.

If it was just the gun parts i dont think i would have worried about it.

Even though its not deacticivated, i believe that when the police prosicute they take the weopon away and try to get it functional.
Well i wish them good luch with that.
And in its state its not likely to be used to cause a public nuisance.

But with that round in it its potentaily a granade waiting for an accident to happen.

I would like to think that someone could (in a controlled way) drill out the side of the round and steam out/ remove the charge?

And make the gun reasonably safe without doing the full ' cut a slot in the barrel - pin the barrel, weld up the moving parts procedure.

Are you saying the Police let you take it away after showing it to them to get someone to exract the round?

It is possible to make this safe and its been done before. Your main problem will be finding someone with the experience to do it, and with a section 1 to collect it from the Police station.
