Hi There My grandfather was in Dunkirk and was evacuted (it says 29th June he returned home on service record) 1940 All I know he was with The Royal West Kent Regiment, I don't know what battalion or whatever it maybe, I know in North Africa he drove a Sherman tank and when he married in 1944 he was posted to North Wales, with his wife. His name was Jack Wickenden, I am looking really to see if anyone maybe alive still from that time as my grandfather was a very private man and when I was 11 he had a stroke and was unable to speak until he passed away when I was 14, so I never got to speak to him about his time in the war. Thanks for reading this. Alison xx
The was 5 battalions of the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment in France with the BEF. If you don't know the battalion I would consider getting a copy of his service records (You mention you have them so it should state what Bn he was with) as they will tell you what units he served with and when amongst other things.
I've just had a look at the red cert service book and it said he was Royal Artillery (Field), I am confuzzled as ever!
Might be a red herring now with the RA connection but 162nd Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps looks like it was formed from 9 RWK. Haven't got time to check further at the moment as I'm being pushed of the PC. Are you able to scan and post the service record to see if we can make some sense of it?

I can do, I shall try to do it tomorrow x
