    Kitty,

I would think that Guy Gibson's name would not be on the Runnymeade Memorial as he has a known grave in Holland. On the other hand you will find all those declared as missing.

If you look closely you will find a great many members of SOE F Section here.

In the summer of 1991 I walked to the memorial through the woods up the hill from the main road.Typical summer, it rained heavily but I soon dried off in the relative heat and had a sobering walk round the memorial looking for names I could remember.

Worth a liitle stay anytime you pass.

    Hi Kitty,

I have Guy Gibson's grave photo should you want it. I'm sure that this is going to be a very moving trip and has been a long time in coming. I'll certainly get you those general shots.

    Mike,

Hope you have a good visit to the RAF Memorial. You will find that all the stone panels have been cleaned and bought back to new, very impressive.

By the way, I live just down the road from Runnymede.

Very sobering when you think that there are 20,337 names commemorated here.

1,387 were Australians. RAAF or RAAF attached to RAF.

Does anybody have any idea where I could track down those Australians who joined and died in the RAF?

I have been provided with a couple of photos that denote RAF yet their headstone states "of Australia".

My 10,835 deaths does not list any of these!

I would like to add them to my list.

    Hi Geof,
The page was posted to give an example of the register available at Runnymede. In fact it shows the entry for my father - CLARE Sgt Seymour 652303.

    Missed that.

Will have to give away the ambitions to become a sleuth.

Spidge i have some shots of Guy's grave, i'll try to email them to you.

gen the reason i asked if he was still on there was that his name was inscribed onto the memorial before his burial was confirmed.

    i think....

    Thanks Mike.

Look forward to receiving them. Did you have a good day?

Were there many people in attendance?

    Kitty,

I'll get those shots to you in a day or so, they are on my laptop and being processed but will be transferred in a day or so.
Spidge, It was a lovely day weather couldn't of been better. People came in dribs and drabs but there was always someone there to keep the guys company. Lots of momentos left by people. One which struck my heart was by a young lad who left his prize athletics medal with a note saying that he appreciated that they had given the ultimate sacrifice and all he could leave them was this medal but he hoped that it was enough for them to accept as a thankyou from him. Brought a tear to my eye it did. I'll get your photos over to you as soon as i can. Some came out a bit bleary so i may have to go back and re-take some in the near future.
    Take care all
    Mike

Not so quick: If possibe I have a request for a helpful soul who would take the time of day to go to Panel 255 and if possible do a rubbing or pic, which ever is easiest? I live in Canada and at this point in time can't get there. It will make wonderful gift for my husband, Robert. There are so many names and so many stories to tell. Thank you for reading this.
    Sincerely,
    Barbara.
