One of these pictures has featured quite a bit on here (The Allied one) and both feature in ATB's Ruckmarsch.

Whilst reading it the other night I came across the German one and something in the description made me think of the Allied on.

So what do they have in common?

Well Jerry's carrying a Sten, or Sten copy.
    And Tommy's got an MP40.

    Maybe they swapped?

Well done Adam......I did wonder about the swap :)

Just incase anyone is interested the caption for the second picture reads:
Karl Muller was in Mons at the begining of September and he took this shot on the Place de Flanders, a major crossroads in the south east part of the city. It is interesting to see that the rider in the camouflaged smock on the NSU motorcycle is armed with a British Sten which was quite capable of firing German 9mm ammuntion.

I am no expert on Motorcycles, but the Germans appear to riding a captured English motorcycle- Enfield, Matchless or other?

    Never even noticed the Sten.
Andy, what town are they in?
    I do like the roadsigns.
Wonder what happened to all those German roadsigns after the war.

I think it's an NSU Tom?

Looked up the picture Owen. it's in Mons, on the 'Place du Flandres' apparently. Caption there says NSU too, I'm sure Rich can confirm the bike.

    Edited above Owen.

Ref the signs there's a fair few in the book like this. Apparently as the German units retreated they left a sign of the route they had gone to give stragglers from the same unit the opportunity to catch them up or rejoin their parent unit. Some were in the form of Div signs like the Trident for 2. Panzer Division or the Commanders name like Peiper for 1. SS-Panzer-Division.

    Adam,
I did say I was no expert when it comes to Motorcycles. ;)

It does look very like the British bike in the first photo.

    Regards
    Tom
