I believe some of the 2nd Bttn. Royal Sussex Regt. converted to Airborne, and became the
    10th Parachute Battalion.

Would the original Royal Sussex service number have carried over to Airborne or would they
have got a new number ?

For example, something like 6401111 ?

Would they have worn anything on Airborne uniform to denote Royal Sussex heritage ?

    Alan.

Service number stayed the same in spite of any transfers or rerolling of unit while in the Army, only if promoted would a new number be issued.

    Ok.

The chap I'm looking at has a France & Germany star medal, but he is not on the nominal roll of the 10th Para Bttn. up to September 1944.

I'm not sure if any Battalion of the Royal Sussex fought in Europe post D-Day, so looks
like he might have transferred to another unit comletely....

Is that the nominal roll in Desert Rise Arnhem Descent?

What information do you have, name, number, photos etc? if you have any odds and ends you can post it may be that other members can pick out details that will help with his story. There were lots of transfers between Regiments so even if he started with the Sussex he could easily have ended up with almost anyone
