Can anyone explain what trades there were in the Royal Signals during WW2 and how were they abbreviated Especially Op 2, Op 3 which class is highest IM ES OWL Many thanks
OWL IS "OPERATOR WIRELESS AND LINE" but I do not know the rest. They are not listed in the Glossary of "The Royal Corps of Signals" by Cliff Lord and Graham Watson although OWL is.
Ref the book quoted above I have just come across a list which includes "electrician signalman" - presumably this is "ES" also "Instrument Mechanic Signalman" - probably "IM". The list also includes "Operator Signalman" which could be your "Op2 and Op3.
