    XE11 tragedy
    Operation of the X-Craft was hazardous at best, but on March 5, 1945, even routine testing was to prove fatal. On this day, three of the crew of XE11 were lost during a routine operation.

    Additional Infomation:
    Listed as a passenger on board the Steam Passenger Ship 'Almeda Star' that was enroute to Trinidad, when Sunk by U-Boat U-96 at 58° 16'N, 13° 40'W. All 360 crew and passengers were lost. Those lost included the master, 136 crew members, 29 gunners and 194 passengers. Among the passengers were 21 officers and 121 ratings of the FAA (749, 750 & 752 FAA-Sqdn) en route to RNAS Piarco, Trinidad.

    HICKS, Sydney Powell - Electrician's Mate First Class - D/MX 802832
