Did anyone watch last Sunday's episode of Ross Kemp in Afghanistan? It was the final episode of the series and he was with 45 Commando, Royal Marines around Kajaki dam and I'm sure that the assault rifles that the Marines were using were not SA80's but looked more like M4 Carbines but all sources I can find show that Royal Marines are equiped with SA80's. Does anyone have info on whether they are using different rifles to the Army?
I watched the show and as far as I was aware thery were using A2 SA80's They did however have a few with the modified front grip on the stock for the left hand to grip called the RIS or Rail system which is fitted to some Colt and Demarco Rifles. There was a few with the Underslung Grenade Launcher (UGL) too. Cheers Andy
I've had a look at all the SA80 variants and I'm sure the rifles didn't look any of them. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt but I'll have to another look at the show.
Cheers Andy, when I first saw them I was sure they were M4's. It caught me a bit surprise as I've only seen the Army regiments with the standard SA80. No worries matey, Yeah thats what I saw, just to be technically correct if the British are using what appears to be M4's they will almost definately be Demarco's as in pic 436 http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/postwar/15231-current-british-army-afghanistan-iraq-5.html Cheers Andy
Cheers again Andy, I assume you the mean Diemaco rifle as when I google Demarco not much info comes up but I can find reference to Diemaco and their M16A2 which I think you refer to, though Diemaco were taken over by Colt and are now called Colt Canada just to add to the confusion.
If thats how its spelt mate lol The British buy the Canadian version made under licence or something like that, don't know why mind. Cheers
