    Hi,
New to this forum - my very first post - and not sure if I'm posting in the right place, so my apologies if this should be elsewhere. I'm currently doing some family history research for a friend whose father served in the Royal Engineers and was posted in North Africa from December 1942 for around 3 years. I've just received service records for him and am trying to make sense of the documents. Could someone explain what kind of work he would have been doing as a Pioneer - EII. I'd appreciate some help with this one. When he enlisted his trade was given as motor (fitter) but he then went on to train as a Pioneer.
Many thanks for your help, SL

Welcome aboard. No harm in asking general questions, but most here prefer to know what information you have already. Notably full name, Date of Birth and Army Number.

Another new member asked for help yesterday and within hours learnt far more. See: Pte G E Wardleworth 13096303 Arbury Hall, Nuneaton

As you can see this website is an amazing resource, it can get addictive too.

Thank you - as I said - completely new to this! The Royal Engineer I am researching was called Alfred Kemp, enlisted in Edinburgh Aug 1939. Date of birth: 27/9/1915. Army no: 2093990. He was posted to 586 Coy. Served in North Africa from 26/11/42 to 7/10/45
