Royal Engineers Bomb Disposal Roll of Honour

    On the 20<SUP>th</SUP> September 1944, just a few days before he was due to go on leave, James was with his Company in Emberton, Bedford. They were in the process of rendering an enemy mine harmless when, at 13.20; it exploded killing eight men and injuring a further five.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
    Sapper T. Bradshaw, Sapper J.A. Brady, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Sapper</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">J.W.</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Bridges</st1:PlaceType>, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Corporal</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">E.F.</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Brooks</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>, Sapper N. Jolley, Sapper A.E. Martin and Lance Sergeant A.V. Maskell also died at this incident.<o:p></o:p>

    Just amended the list of grave locations for those who have previously looked at it you will see a vast difference. 75 left to do out of the original 632. Thanks to all who have so far assisted

    I dont know if you have heard of a book called Bomb disposal and the British Casualties of WW2 by Chris Ransted, but it contains a Roll of honour that while not complete could possibly complete your list.

    Thanks for the info, myself and Chris are in regular contact, between both of us and 33 EOD we have now as far as possible sure that we have a complete list, so all that is left is top get the last few picture

    Just found this reference to John Fordyce - is he of interest and is on your list?

    John Christie Fordyce – Corporal 2149997 – 11 Bomb Disposal Company, Royal Engineers – Died 07 August 1946, aged 24 – Buried Maltby Burial Ground Section D, Row 2, Grave 27 – Son of William and Wilhelmina Fordyce, husband of Mary Joyce Fordyce of Maltby.

    Think he may already be on the list. Tragically killed by one of our own mines, along with a Sapper Hurley and Lt Gaylor (pictured below), at Rattray Head in Scotland.
