After recently recieving my Grandfathers service records I have been tracking him through the Desert war with no major problems until he was wounded at El Alemein, after he recovered he was then posted to the 113 DC RE whs, during the Sicily campaign and I can get no further as I do not know what unit this is, it was redesignated 363 Whs sec in early 44 but i still cannot find out what this abreviation means and what he would of been doing. During my research I have come across this forum and It has help me before so I'm wondering if any one can save me from going insane trying to work this out!!!!

I would contact the RE Museum they will probably be able to help, depending on his physical catagory after his wounds it could be that he was assigned to Warehouse section handling stores. Hence the WHS.

Thanks, as far as I can make out he was passed a1 after recovering, and he was wounded a further 3 times during the fighting on Sicily and in Italy before being trained as a clerk after his final wounding.

Kev, any chance of seeing a scan of the relevant part ? Sometimes the original layout makes it immediately obvious. Could DC be Docks (Operating) Company ? Sometimes the clerks seem to have used non-official abbreviations.

sorry i cannot scan the document as I do not have a scanner, just a lap top for research. If it helps he was reassigned to 113 DC RE whs, on the 3 august 1943 so just after the Sicily landings.
