Can someone please tell me what Unit 322 Coast Bty [Royal Artillery] did in the war. I have a gunner's service book and from what I can make out, he was in Italy but where, what battles etc. Any info would be appreciated. Regards Roy
Hi Roy I looked in several places and found what I wanted in the National Archives. You appear to be right about Italy. The war diaries I found are as follows:- WO169/9699 - Oct to Nov 1943 - Middle East. WO170/1338 - Jan to Dec 1944 - Italy. WO170/4716 - Jan to Dec 1945 - Italy. I only found 1 casualty on CWGC and that was from 1946. Sorry I can't supply any other info. Hope this gives you a start. Cheers - Robert

Hello to both, Robert & Phil I have been trying to read the Service Book and the only other details I can find are two entries as follows: "Granted 28 days leave in Uk [LIAP 13] Authy 66AA Bde letters ref 66/A247/411 dated 22 June 45" " 6 July 1945 L.I.A.P. leave in UK to 4 Aug 1945 [467 Coast Battery RA]" The Service Book belonged to 1769789 Gnr Hudd A. Gnr Hudd now deceased survived the war and I am trying to learn what he did in the war. Interestingly in the book are three photographs of Mussoline in his coffin, could that be a clue, in as much as the date and place where he might have been at the time??? Regards Roy
