Fab site, some of the threads are very moving.

After speaking to my mother in law I have discovered that her father fought in Normandy on DDay, Holland (market garden) and possibly in the battle of the bulge.
His name was Mervyn Basil Northwood. His army number: 937570
He was a Corporal and was demoted to Private but we don't know why.
He survived the war but died in 1968 when my mother in law was 21. He would never say a word about the war even though he was asked so many times. Its a shame as I am so eager to find out as I have such an interest in World War 2.

If anyone has any information on how to find his records or even recognise his name with a relative of yours please let me know.

    Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Other than Royal Artillery as his cap badge do you happen to know a Regiment or Battery-If so there are a couple of good Royal Artillery websites.

However you best bet is to get his NOK (your mother in law) to apply to manning and records in Glasgow for his doc's. This should be faily easy for them to find because you have his service No.

    Once again welcome,

    Andy

Welcome aboard K, if you are his next of kin you can apply for his service record which will tell you a kot of the details behind where he served etc
