    Oh thats brilliant, thank you.
    Have found a hand written note, all it says is;
    BDR Taylor
    Sgt Matthews, Gnr Kent, Tumbler, Privell, Lucas. - i think,
    It's a bit worn but maybe

    If you know a battery number check on the NA database for one as well. There are a hell of a lot. I've already passed one number onto Charlotte.

    It is WO169/9892 and although it is for the period May - Dec 1943 (2 moths past when her relative was killed), Charlotte is interested in looking at it.

    57th (Wessex) HAA Regiment RA (TA) served in Eighth Army and was in 12 AA Brigade in January 1943; the brigade was responsible for defending Castel Benito and other landing grounds near Tripoli from the end of that month. The regiment had only 8 x 3.7-inch guns; its remaining weapons (16) were obsolescent 3-inch guns.
    By May 1943 the regiment was in Eighth Army Troops as part of 12 AA Brigade. Later in the year this brigade was assigned to X (Br) Corps in Fifth (US) Army for Operation AVALANCHE, the Salerno landings.
    The 1943 war diary for 57th (Wessex) is WO169/9823; the battery diaries are in the same series.
