Hi, My grandfather also served in the RA during WW 2 and his military records also repeatedly use the acronym WOUM - i've searched everywhere to find out what this means so I was excited when I found someone else was asking the same question! I don't think it's been explained on this thread yet though, so can anyone out there help please??
Hi, I've been looking at my grandfathers military records from WW 2 (he was an MP in the RA who died of pneumonia in Egypt a few months before the end of the war) and the acronym WOUM crops up several times. I've searched high and low on the internet to find out what this stands for but to no avail; if anyone can tell me what it means I'd be very greatful. Thanks!
JamesP1967 Could you please scan the document so we can see the context in which it is used this may give us a clue as to its meaning.
James, Good advice from Mike. Post a copy and let us all scratch our heads searching for you. Regards Tom
I too thought WO War Office or Warrant Officer, but as Mike say's, without the context we are speculating. Regards Tom
Found this on google the acronym is in there somewhere. December 1941 War Diary of CC Battery Royal Horse Artillery 1941
There was another WOUM that was issued by the military hospitals "Wounded, Outside Under Medical". Essentially, it was a day pass that allowed a soldier to be slightly out of uniform due to being wounded in battle. I ran across this while doing genealogy research for a friend of mine. One of the other researchers filed a copy of the document for a relative of his.
