Hi I'm trying to find out info on my father's father I've is name and regiment served also DOB and place of birth he was in WW2 what is the best portal to use We may have found a tracer card but want to cross reference Any help would be most helpful Thank you
Best to send off for his service records, these are only available from the MOD and the forms you need are here - Request records of deceased service personnel, in addition you will need a copy of his death certificate. TD
To request records you need is number I have a tracer card but don't know if its him and want to know if this person was born in Hartlepool
As well as his death cert the minimum info needed to request his records from the MoD is: Service number and/or date of birth.
Hello Terry, This is most likely your grandfather. The only other Charles W Nobles born in Hartlepool were born in 1878 and 1927. Births Registered Oct - Dec 1905 Surname: Noble First name(s): Charles William District: Hartlepool Vol: 10a Page: 141 Deaths Registered Oct - Dec 1975 Surname: Noble First name(s): Charles William DoB: 22SE1905 District: N Cleveland Vol: 3 Page: 2695 As Travers says, a Death Certificate is sufficient. Richard
As Travers pointed out you dont need a service number to request service records Also you may have missed his other Tracer card UK, World War II Royal Artillery Tracer Cards, 1939-1948 Name: Charles William Noble Enlistment Date: 22 Jun 1927 Discharge Date: 16 Sep 1950 Regiment: Royal Artillery Service Number: 22239751 TD
Terry. For the war years, and with the exception of the period 19 Dec 43-29 Jan 44, he served with 65 Field Regiment Royal Artillery. 65 Fd Regt RA were one of the three Artillery Regiments that directly supported 56 Infantry Division - wherever the Division went so did 65 Fd Regt RA. Given that he joined them on 25 Nov 42, that would place him at the Salerno Landings in Sep 43, the crossing of the River Volturno in Oct 43 and the advance up to the ring of outer hills in front of Cassino. He would have been involved in both the First Battle of Camino in Nov 43 and the Second Battle of Camino in Dec 43. He would have missed the crossing of the River Garigliano on 17 Jan 44 because of his period of absence but been back in time to be shifted to Anzio where 56 Infantry Division were deployed in Feb 44. He would then have been withdrawn from Anzio back to North Africa for rest in Mar 44 then brought back to Italy for the advance beyond Rome. He would have been involved in the attack on the Gothic Line at Rimini in Sep 44 and in the Final Offensive in the Argenta Gap in Apr 45. He had quite a war. Regards Frank
