Philip, I have the History of the 17 Canadian Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, 5th Canadian Armored Div. It has little on the Island and Arnhem, maybe 2-4 pages, but it does have a list with casualties.
has anyone got information regarding the 20th ANTI TANK REGIMENT during the time of September 1944' my fathers uncle was attached to them and was killed around the 19TH of sept somewhere between Leopoldsburg and Eindhoven Philip has already been useful in the fact that they may have been in a region called petit breugel....??? anyone got any further info. Thanks, gaztwrO
Is anyone able to tell me the national archive catalogue reference for the 21st Anti Tank regiment during the NW europe campaign of 1944' ??
Phillip If you look at my post under Multiple Rocket Systems of WW2, I have some details of my dad's regiment (102 LAA Regiment, R.A.). It gives details of a 24 page book about the Land Mattress, which was used in the Netherlands. There is a book called History of the Northumberland Hussars Yeomanry 1924-49 which covers 102 Anti-Tank Regiment RA. I have a copy, but to buy it now, would cost about £100. Regards - Robert
Thanks for that info Robert, will have a look, when possible any copies/scans of the Netherland part would be most welcome, it is indeed expensive, but a lot of the RA books were printed in limited numbers and are getting rear.
Phillip If you look at index the info on this site was done by the son of a gunner of the regiment. I think you were looking for KIA as well on RA regiments and if so, the names of personnel of this unit are here. I'll look at the books I've got and see what I can dig out. Robert
"The forgotten battle" Overloon and the Maas salient 1944-45 by A. Korthals Altes. Artillery is only one of the elements covered but lots of names, maps, personal descriptions. Mostly Br 3rd Inf Div but some others including American 7th Armoured Div.
Phillip 2 Other books are:- In the Shadow of Arnhem - Ken Tout The Long Left Flank (The hard fought way to the Reich) - Jeffrey Williams (About the Canadian First Army) Robert
thanks philip, Ill tell you why...?? my fathers uncle Edwin who was killed in 44' (whom i have spoken of previously in previous posts) was 'as we were aware' part of the 20TH anti tanks reg't which on his service record he is.....however on his service record it also records his death and it states that he was admitted to the 14TH feild dressing station on the 19/9/44 and it is recorded that he was part of the '21st Anti Tank reg't' which i have been led to believe would have been attached to the 14TH FDS.....??? can anyone enlighten me further. Many Thanks GAZ
Phillip Have you ever seen the Royal Artillery Commemoration Book (800 pages) - 1939-45? It's supposed to give details of every single RA unit. How much info is given, I don't yet know. I am waiting to borrow it and if you are interested in knowing what I find. Let me know. Robert.
What about 112th Wessex Regiment RA TA 1939 to 1946 by Goddard....this deals with their service in Holland in 1944
