    On the afternoon of 7th October 1943 the crew of this 604 Squadron Beaufighter V8557 took off from Scorton airfield to perform a flight test . An Army passenger Lt Kenneth Robert Hipkin was on board to gain flight experience. At 14.45hrs the aircraft stalled while attempting to make a steep turn at low level there was not enough height left to recover control of the aircraft and it crashed near Killerby Home Farm, south of Catterick airfield killing
