The following I have transcribed from records held at MOD on my late father Robert Anthony Smith 884971 Royal Artillery Regular Army. I wonder if someone can advise where I should look to build a picture of his time in the army and in particular where in France and what did he do there. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o:p></o:p> Enlisted RARA and posted to 1st Training regiment 15.09.1938 Posted to 61/14 Anti-Tank Regiment 24.12.1938 Posted to 22nd Anti-Tank Training Regiment 11.07.1942 Posted to 176 Field Regiment 02.03.1945 Attached to 98 Reception Camp 12.03.1945 Posted to 92 Anti-Tank Regt 10.11.1945 <o:p></o:p> Overseas service: <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:country-region><st1:place>France</st1:place></st1:country-region> 01.10.1939 to 24.05.1940 <o:p></o:p> Medals issued 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal My thanks in advance, Best regards, Roy
Hi Dannemois I have 22 Anti-Tank training Regiment listed at Shoeburyness, Essex in 1942. 92 (Gordon Highlanders) Anti-Tank Regiment were listed as Home Forces UK in 1945. Here is a link to 14 A/Tk Regiment of which 61 Battery was a part. RA 1939-45 14 A/Tk Rgt Will come back with more if I find anything. Robert
Here are a couple of war diary references from 14 Anti tank at the National Archives at Kew which would tell you more about this unit. WO 166/1621 - July 1940 to Dec 1941 WO 167/577 - Sep 1939 to June 1940.
Thanks Paul & Robert for helping on this. I opened this topic with a summary of my father's military service from information I received from MOD, Bourne Ave, Hayes, Middlesex in 1994. I am not sure if this is his service record or what they had on record? any thoughts on this
I would contact them again, as this is just a summary. Now they send you copies of the complete record.
Paul As Dannemois last did this back in 1994, I presume that he would have to complete the relevent forms and send Historical Disclosures £30 for the lot? Robert
Possibly, but I think they were charging back in '94 as well so he could argue he didn't get value for money? Worth trying.
My mother is still alive so I have sent off for his service record in her name hoping there will be no charge, but if it comes to it I will pay again.
