Does anyone have a schematic or explanation of the various branches within the Royal Artillery directorate (DRA) within the War Office? I am particularly interested in the specified duties of the RA2 branch, who seem to have been tasked with dealing with the RA's fighting vehicles, but I would like to confirm whether this was expressly their job. Thanks in advance for any help.
Just had a look in The Development of Artillery Tactics and Equipment and neither the Directorate nor the War Office figure in the contents or index. Thinking about it, I'm not aware of an official history of the War Office. There's a little project if you ever run out of tanks...
Thanks anyway Idler. Certainly a directorate of War Office departments and their responsibilities would be a useful thing to compile.
The 'War Office List' might go some aay towards that. The 1939 version is available as a paid download from a genealogy site (not one of the big ones). Several are listed at TNA but generally without their editions
