Why are some of the Royal Artillery Badges all gold or brass looking then others have blue gold/brass and red on.The one My Grandfather had was the latter one.
Do you have any pictures? The later may be made of wire which was either a WO1 or Officers beret badge.
Lib Royal Horse Arty, Airborne Arty, Marine, Royal Marine, Coastal Artillery all have slightly different badges based on the usual RA ones. Cheers Rob
others have blue gold/brass and red on.The one My Grandfather had was the latter one. Is it a Blazer badge like this one?
Looks to me like a "Sweetheart Badge": http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/general/16241-sweetheart-badges.html I was in the RA between December '42 & December '44 and none of my badges had any red colouring.
Thanks for that.Does this mean that this badge was something The men gave to there wives girlfriends etc?It was in with all his medals. Here is a photo of him in Africa. He was in the Kings Regiment 24.07.40-30.11.41.Then transferred to R.A 1.12.41 -27.4.46.Although my late Grandmother always spoke about him and I don't know how many times as a child I've looked at all photo's and medals with her. It's the piecing up of where he was either side of being in Africa.I know he drove the trucks and was blown up but survived to tell the tale but sadly died Oct 1949.His Name was Fred Ogden from Manchester.
Lib It's a sweetheart Brooch (pin), as Ron said, for the girls to wear for their men. Here's one in silver. Rob
Thanks for that.Does this mean that this badge was something The men gave to there wives girlfriends etc?. Indeed, and that can be a whole study in itself of the variety of pins. I knew a chap years ago who collected only real gold sweetheart pins. A veritable ransom in today's market. cheers, phil
